Live status updates

Thanks to the wonders of RSS, I’ve pulled in status updates from my Facebook profile over on the right. I’m still working on positioning and color, but this way non-Facebook members can read status updates.

(Re: the kittens — Amanda and I are fostering five kittens while their ‘real’ foster mother – a friend from church – is on vacation. We’d planned on keeping two once they’re ready to be adopted out, but my allergies are just too severe… even a HEPA air purifier only reduces, but doesn’t alleviate, my reaction. I’ve always wanted kittens, so this isn’t a decision I’ve made lightly. The allergies, combined with the possibility that our children might be allergic and other logistical considerations related to having two small pouncy scratchy things in a small condo, mean that this just isn’t going to work out.)

You know, if you REALLY want cats, you can get allergy therapy to eliminate your reaction to cat dander…

Well, I sympathize with wanting to have animals, but the upside is that Cindi and I can visit you in Seattle. I’ve been really wanting to get up that way and it just sounded kind of sad not being able to hang out in your home, even if we stay at a hotel, we wouldn’t be able to stay at your place for more than an hour. I hope to get up that way soon, we’re currently trying to figure out the holidays (It’s supposed to be Montana for Christmas this year, since it was Santa Maria the last two). So, once that is squared away, along with the purchase of a new vehicle, we hope to figure out a time to fly up there.

Yeah, I thought about allergy therapy – even emailed our Benefits contact here at MS to find out whether it’s covered – but, really, I could just hang out with the cats for a couple months to accomplish the same thing. Allergies are the main problem, but they aren’t the only ones (sadly)… we’d need to buy HEPA air purifiers for the bedroom and bathroom (~$100 a pop), and I’d still have to keep the second bedroom door shut (methinks the 100+ dangly wires on my logic analyzer would be a real temptation for kitten claws). Having to keep our place all closed up makes it feel a *lot* smaller.

Joel: that’s another positive upside. We’ll be sure to vacuum etc real well after the kittens leave! You guys are welcome any time.
